Zada, Hedron Grinder costs {3}{R}. Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery that targets only Zada, she copies that spell for each other creature you control that it could target, and each copy targets a different creature. One cheap cantrip becomes a draw for every creature on the table.
The precon already has the cantrips that do this, including Fists of Flame, Expedite and Renegade Tactics. Each swap below pairs a cut with an add, and every card is scored with the same numbers the Oracle uses to build decks: synergy and inclusion from the Zada decks, plus lift, which shows how much more often a card turns up in Zada decks than in decks that could play it.

What is holding the deck back
Too many lands for a cheap deck
Thirty-six lands, and only one nonland card costs six or more. The deck also runs Battle Hymn, Brightstone Ritual, Seething Song, Sol Ring and Mana Geyser. Four of the swaps below turn tapped and utility lands into spells.
Missing the best cantrips
Zada wants as many cheap targeted spells as possible, and the top-scoring cards the precon leaves out are exactly those: Sudden Breakthrough, Ancestral Anger, Reckless Ransacking and Accelerate each cost one or two mana and replace themselves or make a Treasure.
Cards that fight the plan
Blasphemous Act deals 13 damage to every creature, including the army Zada is copying spells onto. Vandalblast only hits artifacts, and Boggart Shenanigans and Quest for the Goblin Lord are Goblin-only payoffs that very few Zada decks play.
The 16 swaps

Blasphemous Act deals 13 damage to each creature, which includes your own team, in a deck that wins by going wide. It is played in about one Zada deck in four, but it has negative synergy with the plan.
Young Pyromancer costs {1}{R}: whenever you cast an instant or sorcery you create a 1/1 Elemental. Every cantrip makes another body for Zada to copy onto.

Vandalblast destroys an artifact you do not control, or every artifact an opponent controls if you overload it. It does nothing when the table has no artifacts.
Sudden Breakthrough costs {1}{R}: target creature gets +2/+0 and first strike, and you create a Treasure. It is a two-mana targeted spell that pays for itself, and it is played in over three-quarters of Zada decks.

Idol of Oblivion draws a card only if you created a token this turn, and its big payoff costs {8}. It is played in about one Zada deck in sixteen.
Hordeling Outburst costs {1}{R}{R} and creates three 1/1 Goblin tokens. Three more creatures for Zada to copy onto, for three mana.

This is the first of four land-for-spell swaps. Spinerock Knoll enters tapped, and the deck has 36 lands.
Ancestral Anger costs {R}: target creature gains trample and +X/+0 until end of turn, where X is 1 plus the number of cards named Ancestral Anger in your graveyard, and you draw a card. A one-mana cantrip, played in about 70% of Zada decks.

War Room taps for {C}, and for {3}, a tap and life it draws a card. In a deck made of red spells, colourless mana is a cost.
Reckless Ransacking costs {1}{R}: target creature gets +3/+2 and you create a Treasure. It is another two-mana targeted spell that pays for itself.

Smoldering Crater enters tapped and cycles for {2}.
Accelerate costs {1}{R}: target creature gains haste until end of turn and you draw a card. It is a cantrip that targets a creature, which is the shape of spell Zada copies.

Hidden Volcano enters tapped, and its discover 4 costs {4}{R} and a sacrifice at sorcery speed.
Goblin Instigator costs {1}{R} and creates a 1/1 Goblin token when it enters. Two bodies for two mana, both potential Zada copy targets.

Throne of Eldraine costs five and taps for four mana of one colour for monocoloured spells of that colour. It is a rare, expensive card that is played in about one Zada deck in nine.
Guttersnipe costs {2}{R}: whenever you cast an instant or sorcery it deals 2 damage to each opponent. Every cantrip in the deck becomes a burn spell.

Faithless Looting draws two and discards two, which costs you a card from a hand that is full of cheap spells.
Might of the Meek costs {R}: target creature gains trample until end of turn, and it gets +1/+0 if you control a Mouse. You draw a card. It is a one-mana cantrip that targets a creature.

Boggart Shenanigans pings a player whenever another Goblin you control goes to the graveyard. It is played in about one Zada deck in fourteen.
Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin costs {2}{R}: whenever he attacks he gets a +1/+1 counter and creates a number of 1/1 Goblins equal to his power. He grows the army and gives Zada more to copy onto.

Quest for the Goblin Lord puts a quest counter on itself whenever a Goblin enters under your control, and needs five of them to do anything. It is played in about one Zada deck in seventeen.
Blazing Crescendo costs {1}{R}: target creature gets +3/+1 until end of turn, and you exile the top card of your library and may play it until the end of your next turn. A pump spell that replaces itself.

Glimpse the Impossible is a three-mana sorcery that exiles the top three cards for you to play this turn. It is hard to use all three in a turn.
Impolite Entrance costs {R}: target creature gains trample and haste until end of turn, and you draw a card. A one-mana cantrip that targets a creature.

Great Train Heist ({R}) is not a card Zada decks usually play. It reads: Spree. + {2}{R} : Untap all creatures you control. If it's your combat phase, there is an additional combat phase after this phase.
Temur Battle Rage ({1}{R}) scores 44: it is in 47% of Zada decks with 41% synergy. It reads: Target creature gains double strike until end of turn. Ferocious : That creature also gains trample until end of turn if you control a creature with power 4 or greater.

Gempalm Incinerator ({2}{R}) is not a card Zada decks usually play. It reads: Cycling {1}{R}. When you cycle this card, you may have it deal X damage to target creature, where X is the number of Goblins on the battlefield.
Runaway Steam-Kin ({1}{R}) scores 43: it is in 53% of Zada decks with 36% synergy. It reads: Whenever you cast a red spell, if this creature has fewer than three +1/+1 counters on it, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature. Remove three +1/+1 counters from this creature: Add {R}{R}{R}.

Goblin Bushwhacker ({R}) is not a card Zada decks usually play. It reads: Kicker {R}. When this creature enters, if it was kicked, creatures you control get +1/+0 and gain haste until end of turn.
Titan's Strength ({R}) scores 42: it is in 44% of Zada decks with 40% synergy. It reads: Target creature gets +3/+1 until end of turn. Scry 1.

Redcap Gutter-Dweller ({2}{R}{R}) is not a card Zada decks usually play. It reads: Menace. When this creature enters, create two 1/1 black Rat creature tokens with "This token can't block.".
Flick a Coin ({2}{R}) scores 39: it is in 42% of Zada decks with 37% synergy. It reads: Flick a Coin deals 1 damage to any target. You create a Treasure token. Draw a card.

What to keep
These cards are doing the deck's heavy lifting. Do not cut them.
- Fists of Flame$0.18
Played in 90% of Zada decks. Draws a card, and the target creature gains trample and +1/+0 for each card drawn this turn. - Expedite$0.25
A one-mana cantrip that gives a creature haste. The cheaper the spell, the more times you can cast it a turn. - Renegade Tactics$0.13
Draws a card and stops a creature from blocking. A one-mana targeted cantrip for Zada. - Dragon Fodder$0.12
Two 1/1 Goblins for two mana, which means two more creatures for Zada to copy onto. - Empty the Warrens$0.17
Makes two Goblins for four mana, but storm copies it for every spell you cast first, which turns a turn of cantrips into a huge army.
If you want to spend more
These are strong but sit outside a budget upgrade. Prices are the cheapest paper printing.
- Beetleback Chief$0.22
Makes two Goblin tokens, and a body. A cheap card, but one to add after the budget swaps if you have the slots.
Goblin Storm already plays the cantrips Zada loves. The upgrade is more of them, more creatures to copy onto, and a lighter mana base in a deck that tops out at four mana. These sixteen swaps cost about $8 in total.

How the numbers work
Inclusion is the share of Zada, Hedron Grinder decks (16,149 of them when this was written, 2026-10-27) that play the card. Synergy is how much more often they play it than other decks in the same colours. Oracle score is synergy × 0.6 plus inclusion × 0.4, the same blend The Oracle uses to rank cards for a deck. Lift compares how often the card appears in these decks with how often it could, capped at 8× here; it is shown for context and does not change the score.
Two cautions. Players who run the precon unmodified count as Zada decks, which flatters every card the precon contains. Lift is high for many of these cantrips because they are rarely played outside spells decks, so use lift to compare cards, not to judge one in isolation. A card the commander's decks do not usually play counts as 0 in the average score. Prices are the cheapest non-foil paper printing on TCGplayer (via Scryfall), in USD, and move daily.
