Zimone, Infinite Analyst costs {1}{G}{U}. The first spell you cast each turn with {X} in its mana cost costs {1} less for each +1/+1 counter on Zimone, and whenever you cast that spell she gets two +1/+1 counters. Every turn you cast an X spell, she makes the next one cheaper.
The precon already has the payoffs, including Unbound Flourishing, Hydroid Krasis and Owlin Spiralmancer. Each swap below pairs a cut with an add, and every card is scored with the same numbers the Oracle uses to build decks: synergy and inclusion from the Zimone decks, plus lift, which shows how much more often a card turns up in Zimone decks than in decks that could play it.

What is holding the deck back
Spells with no X in the cost
Zimone only triggers on spells with {X} in their mana cost. Eureka Moment, Zimone's Hypothesis, Perplexing Test and Oversimplify have none, and neither do the creatures Quandrix Apprentice, Zimone, All-Questioning, Zimone, Quandrix Prodigy and Deekah.
The missing X spells
Mathemagics, Repulsive Mutation, Geometer's Arthropod and Finale of Revelation are the top-scoring cards the precon leaves out, and each is an X spell or rewards casting them.
A very low curve and tapped lands
Not one nonland card costs six or more, because X spells scale with the mana you have. The deck still runs Quandrix Campus, Temple of Mystery, Paradox Gardens and Tangled Islet, which all enter tapped, in 37 lands.
The 10 swaps
Each pair shows the numbers for the card coming out and the card going in. Click a card image to zoom.

Quandrix Apprentice is a 2/2 for {G}{U} that looks at the top three cards whenever you cast or copy an instant or sorcery, and takes a land. It has no X in its cost, so it does not trigger Zimone.
Mathemagics costs {X}{X}{U}{U}: target player draws 2 to the power of X cards. X=3 draws eight, and it is an X spell, so it triggers Zimone and her discount.

Zimone, All-Questioning is a 1/1 that makes a Fractal at your end step if a land entered and you control a prime number of lands. It is played in about one Zimone deck in seven.
Geometer's Arthropod is a 1/4 for {G}{U}: whenever you cast a spell with {X} in its mana cost, you look at the top X cards of your library and put one into your hand. Every X spell becomes a tutor.

Eureka Moment draws two cards and lets you put a land onto the battlefield, for four mana, and it has no X.
Repulsive Mutation costs {X}{G}{U} at instant speed: it puts X +1/+1 counters on a creature you control, then counters a spell unless its controller pays mana equal to the greatest power among your creatures. It is an X spell that grows a creature and counters a spell.

Zimone, Quandrix Prodigy is a 1/2 for {G}{U} that puts a land onto the battlefield for {1} and a tap, and draws for {4} and a tap. It is a slow creature that does not trigger Zimone.
Finale of Revelation costs {X}{U}{U}: draw X cards. If X is 10 or more, it shuffles your graveyard into your library, draws X cards, untaps up to five lands and gives you no maximum hand size. A scalable draw spell that triggers Zimone.

Deekah is a five-mana creature that makes a Fractal with counters whenever you cast or copy an instant or sorcery. It is a fine card, but it costs five and has no X.
Syncopate costs {X}{U} at instant speed: counter target spell unless its controller pays {X}, and exile it instead if it is countered. A one-mana X counterspell that triggers Zimone every turn, and it is played in about half of Zimone decks.

Oversimplify exiles every creature, and each player gets a Fractal with counters equal to the power they lost. It is a sweeper in a creature deck, and it has no X.
Broodguard Elite costs {X}{G}{G} and enters with X +1/+1 counters. When it leaves the battlefield its counters go onto another creature you control, and it has warp {X}{G}. An X creature that never loses its counters.

Perplexing Test costs {3}{U}{U} to return all creature tokens or all nontoken creatures to their owners' hands. It is a five-mana reset that does not trigger Zimone.
Condescend costs {X}{U} at instant speed: counter target spell unless its controller pays {X}, then scry 2. It is another X spell for Zimone, and it replaces itself with card selection.

Zimone's Hypothesis costs five. It puts a counter on a creature, then bounces every creature with odd or even power. It is a swingy reset with no X.
Mind into Matter costs {X}{G}{U}: draw X cards, then you may put a permanent card with mana value X or less from your hand onto the battlefield tapped. A scalable draw spell that also puts a creature onto the battlefield.

Beast Within is a three-mana instant that destroys a permanent and gives its controller a 3/3 Beast. It is played in about one Zimone deck in two, but it has little synergy with Zimone.
March of Swirling Mist costs {X}{U}. Up to X target creatures phase out, and you may exile blue cards from your hand to make it cost {2} less for each. It has {X} in its cost, so it makes Zimone cheaper and gives her two counters, and it is an instant that saves your board.

Quandrix Charm is a two-mana instant that counters a spell unless its controller pays {2}, destroys an enchantment, or makes a creature 5/5. It is played in about one Zimone deck in three.
Doppelgang costs {X}{X}{X}{G}{U}. For each of X target permanents, you create X tokens that are copies of it. It is the heaviest X spell in the deck, and with Zimone's counters it costs less each time.

What to keep
These cards are doing the deck's heavy lifting. Do not cut them.
- Unbound Flourishing$2.10
Played in 96% of Zimone decks. Doubles the value of X for your permanent spells and copies your X spells. - Hydroid Krasis$0.31
An X spell with flying and trample that gains you life and draws cards when you cast it. - Goldvein Hydra$3.42
An X creature with vigilance, trample and haste that makes Treasure when it dies. - Owlin Spiralmancer$0.30
A flier that copies your first spell with {X} in its cost each turn. - Benevolent Hydra$0.66
Enters with X counters and puts one extra counter whenever counters would go onto another creature you control.
If you want to spend more
These are strong but sit outside a budget upgrade. Prices are the cheapest paper printing.
- Branching Evolution$7.60
Doubles every +1/+1 counter that would be put on a creature you control. Excellent with every X creature, but it costs more than a budget upgrade should. - Voracious Hydra$0.27
An X creature with trample that either doubles its counters or fights a creature when it enters. - Zimone, Paradox Sculptor$2.96
Puts a +1/+1 counter on each of up to two creatures at the start of combat, every turn.
Quandrix Unlimited already has the hydras and the payoffs. The upgrade is more X spells, so Zimone triggers every turn and gets cheaper, and fewer cards that never trigger her. These ten swaps cost about $12 in total.

How the numbers work
Inclusion is the share of Zimone, Infinite Analyst decks (11,952 of them when this was written, 2026-10-27) that play the card. Synergy is how much more often they play it than other decks in the same colours. Oracle score is synergy × 0.6 plus inclusion × 0.4, the same blend The Oracle uses to rank cards for a deck. Lift compares how often the card appears in these decks with how often it could, capped at 8× here; it is shown for context and does not change the score.
Two cautions. Players who run the precon unmodified count as Zimone decks, which flatters every card the precon contains. Lift is high for many X spells because they are rarely played outside X decks, so use lift to compare cards, not to judge one in isolation. Prices are the cheapest non-foil paper printing on TCGplayer (via Scryfall), in USD, and move daily.
