Overview

Captain America, Team Leader arrives as one of the most synergistic Hero-tribal commanders in the game. The deck's strategy is straightforward but deeply rewarding: deploy Heroes, coordinate attacks, and grow the team through shared counters and combat triggers. Steve Rogers rewards the kind of teamwork that casual Commander tables love, and the Jeskai colour identity gives the deck access to the widest possible range of Marvel heroes spanning the Avengers, the X-Men, and SHIELD.

The supporting cast reads like a who's-who of Marvel's flagship characters. Director Nick Fury backs operations from the shadows, Iron Man Armored Avenger brings the heavy artillery, and Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings handles precision combat. Non-Marvel support includes Reconnaissance for aggressive combat manoeuvrability and Adriana, Captain of the Guard for stacking counters on every attacker.

Key Cards

Director Nick Fury
Value Engine · SHIELD Support
The head of SHIELD provides card advantage and mission objectives that reward your Heroes for attacking. Fury translates the deck's natural combat aggression into a constant stream of resources, ensuring the hand stays full even as the team swings into the red zone turn after turn.
Iron Man Armored Avenger
Combat Threat · Equipment Synergy
Tony Stark in full armour brings both raw power and equipment synergy to the team. The Armored Avenger can both attack effectively and provide the team with technological upgrades, making him one of the deck's most flexible individual threats and a priority target for opponents who recognise the danger.
Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings
Combat Trick · Precision Strike
The Master of Kung Fu brings martial precision to the Avengers' assault. His ability to outmanoeuvre blockers and deal precise damage makes him the deck's premier surgical striker, punishing players who overextend on defence while keeping the path clear for the rest of the team to swing through.
Avengers Tower
Mana Base · Team Hub
The Avengers' headquarters enters as both a land and a source of team-wide benefits. Acting as a mana base upgrade that also generates value whenever Heroes assemble at the Tower, it is one of the deck's key infrastructure pieces, providing the stable foundation that allows the rest of the team to operate efficiently.

Playing the Deck

The early game is about assembling the team. Deploy cheap Hero creatures in the first two turns and aim to have Captain America in play by turn three or four. The deck wants to be attacking as early as possible, so prioritise creatures with haste or evasion in the opening hand. Reconnaissance is one of the best cards to find early, as it allows your entire team to attack freely without fear of losing creatures to combat.

The mid game is where the deck truly comes alive. Captain America's ability to buff the team on attack transforms every combat step into a threat multiplier. Director Nick Fury ensures the hand stays full, and Iron Man Armored Avenger provides the kind of individual threat that forces opponents to react. The blue in Jeskai gives the deck access to counterspells for protecting key plays, while red provides haste enablers and combat tricks.

The late game is a question of closing out through accumulated advantages. Each Hero that has survived multiple combat steps is now a significant threat in their own right. Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings can punch through any remaining blockers, and the deck's suite of instants provides the tempo to protect the team through a final, decisive assault.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths: The deck applies pressure from turn two and never lets up. Captain America's team-wide buffs mean that even a small board becomes threatening very quickly, and the flavour is exceptional for Marvel fans. The Jeskai colour identity provides excellent access to counterspells and combat tricks, making the deck resilient against single-target disruption.

Weaknesses: The deck is vulnerable to board wipes, which can set the strategy back significantly since the counter-stacking power is lost when creatures die. The deck also has limited ways to generate card advantage beyond combat triggers, meaning a stalled board can leave the hand empty. Opponents who respect the aggression and hold up removal for Captain America will slow the deck considerably.

Verdict
Avengers Assemble is the most accessible of the four Marvel Super Heroes Commander precons. The gameplan is intuitive, the Marvel flavour is exceptional, and the Jeskai colour combination offers plenty of room for upgrades. New Commander players will appreciate how straightforwardly it rewards combat while veterans will see clear upgrade paths toward more resilient, faster builds. The deck is fun, flavourful, and punches above its precon weight the moment a few protection spells are added to the mix.
