Overview

Dungeons of Death is a deck that fills its graveyard, ventures into the dungeon and brings creatures back. Sefris of the Hidden Ways ventures into the dungeon whenever one or more creature cards are put into your graveyard from anywhere (once each turn), and whenever you complete a dungeon, you return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield. Venturing from discard, loots and dying creatures is how the deck finishes dungeons.

The 99 cards are 33 creatures, 12 artifacts, 3 enchantments, 7 instants, 5 sorceries and 39 lands. The deck has direct venture cards such as Radiant Solar, Dungeon Map, Immovable Rod, Thorough Investigation and Midnight Pathlighter, and Hama Pashar, Ruin Seeker makes room abilities trigger an additional time. It has many looters and discard outlets such as Merfolk Looter, Obsessive Stitcher and Champion of Wits, and reanimation such as Unburial Rites, Victimize, Karmic Guide and Eternal Dragon.

Key Cards

◈
Radiant Solar
Venture Engine · Lifelink
A 3/6 for {5}{W}. It has flying and lifelink, and whenever it or another nontoken creature you control enters, you venture into the dungeon. For {W} you can discard it to venture and gain 3 life, so it is useful even in the early game.
◈
Hama Pashar, Ruin Seeker
Dungeon Doubler
A 2/3 for {1}{W}{U}. Room abilities of dungeons you own trigger an additional time. Every room you enter does its effect twice, so dungeons give much more value.
◈
Midnight Pathlighter
Evasion · Venture
A 2/3 for {2}{W}{U}. Creatures you control can't be blocked except by legendary creatures, and whenever one or more creatures you control deal combat damage to a player, you venture into the dungeon. It turns each attack into a venture.
◈
Immovable Rod
Venture · Removal
An artifact for {W}. You may choose not to untap it, and whenever it becomes untapped you venture into the dungeon. For {3}{W} and a tap, another target permanent loses all abilities and can't attack or block for as long as the Rod stays tapped.

Playing the Deck

The early game is about mana and cheap enablers. Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Fellwar Stone, Wayfarer's Bauble and Dungeon Map ramp you, Merfolk Looter, Obsessive Stitcher and Wall of Omens help your hand, and Baleful Strix draws a card. Reassembling Skeleton and Doomed Necromancer use the graveyard from the start.

The middle of the game is about venturing and reanimating. Radiant Solar ventures whenever a nontoken creature enters, Thorough Investigation investigates and ventures when you sacrifice a Clue, and Sefris of the Hidden Ways returns a creature each time a dungeon is completed. Karmic Guide, Sun Titan, Unburial Rites, Victimize and Revivify bring back creatures, and Nihiloor steals a creature from an opponent.

The late game is about huge flyers and a reset. Ashen Rider exiles a permanent when it enters or dies, Sunblast Angel destroys all tapped creatures, and Cataclysmic Gearhulk and Necromantic Selection reset the board. Grave Endeavor returns a creature with counters and drains opponents, and Arcane Endeavor draws cards and casts a free spell.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths: The deck has a lot of ways to use its graveyard, so it recovers from removal and sweepers, and its card draw keeps it moving. It also has good interaction, including Swords to Plowshares, Utter End, Despark, Shriekmaw, Plaguecrafter and Hostage Taker.

Weaknesses: Dungeons take several rooms to complete, so the deck can feel slow, and graveyard hate hurts it. Many of its best cards are expensive, it has three colours with many double-coloured costs, and venturing is a new and slightly complicated mechanic for some players.

Verdict
Dungeons of Death is a value-heavy reanimator deck with a dungeon-crawling twist. It rewards careful sequencing and is a great choice for players who like graveyard strategies and want to explore venture.
