Overview
Mishra's Burnished Banner is an artifact deck where the artifacts do the work. Mishra, Eminent One is a five-mana Human Artificer, and at the beginning of combat on your turn he creates a token copy of target noncreature artifact you control. The copy is named Mishra's Warform, it is a 4/4 Construct artifact creature in addition to its other types, and it gains haste until end of turn and is sacrificed at the beginning of the next end step.
The 99 cards are 21 creatures, 30 artifacts, 0 enchantments, 5 instants, 6 sorceries and 37 lands. 30 of them are noncreature artifacts, which is far more than a normal deck, and many do something when they enter or leave the battlefield, such as Ichor Wellspring, Servo Schematic, Prophetic Prism and Spine of Ish Sah. A copy of one of these from Mishra triggers it again when it enters and, because the copy is sacrificed, again when it leaves.
Key Cards
Playing the Deck
The early game is about mana and cheap artifacts. Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Dimir Signet, Rakdos Signet, Mind Stone, Fellwar Stone and Wayfarer's Bauble ramp you, Prophetic Prism, Ichor Wellspring and Servo Schematic replace themselves, and Emry, Lurker of the Loch casts artifacts from the graveyard. Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer protects your artifacts and Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain draws a card whenever you cast a historic spell.
The middle of the game is about copying and sacrificing artifacts for value. Mishra creates a Warform every combat, Mirrorworks copies your artifacts, Strionic Resonator and Lithoform Engine copy triggered abilities, and Smelting Vat and Audacious Reshapers turn sacrificed artifacts into bigger ones. Farid, Enterprising Salvager, Oni-Cult Anvil and Ashnod the Uncaring reward you for artifacts leaving the battlefield and for sacrifice abilities.
The late game is about huge artifact payoffs. Hellkite Igniter gets +X/+0 for each artifact you control, Blast-Furnace Hellkite gives your attackers double strike, Metalwork Colossus costs less for each noncreature artifact, and Herald of Anguish and Geth, Lord of the Vault steal value from opponents. Oblivion Stone, Terisiare's Devastation and Blasphemous Act reset the board when you need to.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths: The deck has a huge number of artifacts that replace themselves, so it rarely runs out of cards, and its mana is very good with rocks, signets and Powerstones. It also has efficient removal, including Bedevil, Abrade, Chaos Warp, Feed the Swarm and Executioner's Capsule, and card draw from Fact or Fiction, Thirst for Knowledge and Expressive Iteration.
Weaknesses: The deck is full of artifacts rather than threats, so it can be slow, and artifact removal or graveyard hate makes some of its engines less effective. It has only 21 creatures, and several of them, such as Metalwork Colossus and Blast-Furnace Hellkite, are very expensive.
