Overview

Necron Dynasties is a mono-black deck that treats its graveyard as part of its hand. Szarekh, the Silent King is a four-mana artifact creature with flying, and whenever he attacks you mill three cards and may put an artifact creature card or Vehicle card from among them into your hand. Every attack gives card advantage and fills the graveyard for the rest of the deck.

The 99 cards are 29 creatures, 21 artifacts, 3 enchantments, 3 instants, 6 sorceries and 37 lands, and 30 of the lands are Swamps. 22 of the creatures are Necrons and nearly all are artifact creatures, and several have unearth so they can return from the graveyard, including Chronomancer, Triarch Praetorian, Skorpekh Lord, Royal Warden and Tomb Blade. The rest of the deck helps by milling, reanimating and making Necron Warrior tokens.

Key Cards

◈
Imotekh the Stormlord
Token Maker · Lord
A 3/3 for {2}{B}{B}. Whenever one or more artifact cards leave your graveyard, you create two 2/2 black Necron Warrior artifact creature tokens. At the beginning of combat on your turn, another target artifact creature you control gets +2/+2 and gains menace until end of turn.
◈
Trazyn the Infinite
Copy Engine · Deathtouch
A 4/6 for {4}{B}{B}. It has deathtouch, and as long as it is on the battlefield it has all activated abilities of all artifact cards in your graveyard. A graveyard full of artifacts becomes a toolbox of abilities for one creature.
◈
Shard of the Nightbringer
Finisher · Drain
A 8/8 for {5}{B}{B}{B}. It has flying, and when it enters, if you cast it, target opponent loses half their life, rounded up, and you gain life equal to the life lost. It is an eight-mana flyer that can take a big chunk of an opponent's life as it enters.
◈
Their Number Is Legion
Token Maker · Recursion
A sorcery for {X}{B}{B}{B}{B}. Create X tapped 2/2 black Necron Warrior artifact creature tokens, then gain life equal to the number of artifacts you control. Exile it, and you may cast this card from your graveyard, so you get a second use.

Playing the Deck

The early game is about mana and cheap Necrons. Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Mind Stone, Thought Vessel, Hedron Archive and Wayfarer's Bauble provide mana, and Flayed One, Chronomancer, Triarch Praetorian and Skorpekh Lord come down cheaply. Flayed One mills three cards when it enters, and Out of the Tombs mills more every upkeep.

The middle of the game is about getting value from the graveyard. Imotekh the Stormlord and Technomancer turn artifact creatures in the graveyard into bodies, Anrakyr the Traveller lets you cast artifact spells from your hand or graveyard by paying life, and Mystic Forge casts artifact spells from the top of your library. Ghost Ark gives artifact creature cards unearth {3} when it is crewed, Convergence of Dominion makes graveyard abilities cheaper, and Biotransference makes your creatures artifacts and creates Necron Warriors when you cast artifact spells.

The late game is about huge threats and a one-sided sweeper. Shard of the Void Dragon makes each opponent sacrifice a nonland permanent whenever it attacks, Necron Monolith is an indestructible flying Vehicle, and Trazyn the Infinite copies the abilities of artifacts in the graveyard. Their Name Is Death destroys all nonartifact creatures, which leaves almost all of your own creatures alive, and The War in Heaven and Beacon of Unrest bring creatures back.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths: The deck is very consistent: it is mono-black, has a lot of recursion, and its creatures are good at coming back after removal or a sweeper. It also has plenty of removal, such as Go for the Throat, Necron Deathmark and Lokhust Heavy Destroyer, and strong one-sided sweeping in Their Name Is Death.

Weaknesses: Graveyard hate can slow the deck down a lot, because so much of its power comes from returning creatures. Most of the deck's removal is aimed at creatures and does little against noncreature threats, and some of its best cards, such as the two Shards, cost a lot of mana.

Verdict
Necron Dynasties is a powerful and flavourful reanimator deck with a very consistent mana base and plenty of value. It is a good choice for players who like graveyard strategies and artifact creatures, and it is easy to improve with a few better threats.
