Overview

Party Time is a deck built around having a full party, which means controlling at least one Cleric, one Rogue, one Warrior and one Wizard. Nalia de'Arnise lets you look at the top card of your library any time and cast Cleric, Rogue, Warrior and Wizard spells from the top of your library. At the beginning of combat on your turn, if you have a full party, she puts a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control and gives them deathtouch until end of turn.

The 99 cards are 44 creatures, 7 artifacts, 3 enchantments, 3 instants, 5 sorceries and 37 lands. That is a lot of creatures, and they include 14 Clerics, 11 Wizards, 9 Warriors and 5 Rogues. Many of them are party payoffs, such as Archpriest of Iona, Squad Commander, Malakir Blood-Priest and Burakos, Party Leader, which count the creatures in your party, and others help you fill the party quickly, such as changelings and Maskwood Nexus.

Key Cards

◈
Burakos, Party Leader
Drain · Treasure
A 2/4 for {3}{B}. It is also a Cleric, Rogue, Warrior and Wizard, so it completes your party by itself. Whenever it attacks, defending player loses X life and you create X Treasure tokens, where X is the number of creatures in your party.
◈
Squad Commander
Token Maker · Team Pump
A 3/3 for {3}{W}. When it enters you create a 1/1 white Kor Warrior creature token for each creature in your party. At the beginning of combat on your turn, if you have a full party, creatures you control get +1/+0 and gain indestructible until end of turn.
◈
Seasoned Dungeoneer
Initiative · Explore
A 3/4 for {3}{W}. When it enters you take the initiative, and whenever you attack, target attacking Cleric, Rogue, Warrior or Wizard gains protection from creatures until end of turn and explores. It starts the initiative and helps a party creature connect.
◈
Multiclass Baldric
Equipment · Party Payoff
An equipment for {1}. Equipped creature has lifelink if you control a Cleric, deathtouch if you control a Rogue, haste if you control a Warrior and flying if you control a Wizard. As long as you have a full party, prevent all damage that would be dealt to equipped creature.

Playing the Deck

The early game is about filling the party cheaply. Mother of Runes, Archpriest of Iona, Selfless Spirit, Changeling Outcast and Zulaport Cutthroat are cheap and cover several types, and Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Orzhov Signet and Talisman of Hierarchy speed you up. Skullclamp turns small creatures into cards, and Priest of Ancient Lore and Bygone Bishop add value early.

The middle of the game is about full-party triggers. Nalia de'Arnise puts counters on your team at the beginning of combat, Squad Commander pumps the team, and Harper Recruiter looks at the top four cards for party creatures. Mardu Strike Leader makes a Warrior every attack, Mirror Entity and Irregular Cohort fill the party with changelings, and Order of Whiteclay and Solemn Doomguide bring creatures back from the graveyard.

The late game is about big flyers and a reset. Butcher of Malakir makes each opponent sacrifice a creature when your creatures die, Calculating Lich drains whenever a creature attacks an opponent, Glorious Protector protects your team, and Firja's Retribution makes a 4/4 Angel Warrior. Thwart the Grave reanimates two creatures, and Austere Command, Dusk // Dawn and Stick Together reset the board.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths: The deck has a huge number of creatures that count towards the party, so it rarely struggles to get a full party, and several of its cards reward you for it. It also has many ways to protect itself and interact, including Despark, Crib Swap and Unbreakable Formation, and cards such as Glorious Protector that protect your team.

Weaknesses: Many of the creatures are small, so a sweeper or a strong blocker can set the deck back, and the party payoffs are weaker when the party is broken by removal on a key type. Some of its cards, such as Black Market Connections, also cost you life.

Verdict
Party Time is a friendly deck with a clear theme and a lot of cheap creatures. It rewards sensible sequencing and building a balanced party, and it is a good choice for players who like a wide range of creatures and a straightforward plan.
