Overview
Peer Through Time is a mono-blue control deck led by a planeswalker. Teferi, Temporal Archmage can be your commander and enters with five loyalty. Its +1 looks at the top two cards of your library and puts one into your hand, its -1 untaps up to four target permanents, and its -10 gives you an emblem that lets you activate planeswalker loyalty abilities on any player's turn at instant speed. Untapping four mana rocks or lands gives you plenty of extra mana.
The 99 cards are 25 creatures, 16 artifacts, 3 enchantments, 10 instants, 7 sorceries and 38 lands. Card draw such as Mulldrifter, Sea Gate Oracle, Concentrate, Stroke of Genius, Rush of Knowledge and Well of Ideas keeps your hand full, and bounce and counters such as Cyclonic Rift, Into the Roil, Aether Gale, Dismiss and Exclude protect you. The top end is huge, with Sphinx of Magosi, Sphinx of Uthuun, Frost Titan, Lorthos, the Tidemaker, Breaching Leviathan and Artisan of Kozilek.
Key Cards
Playing the Deck
The early game is about mana and cheap card draw. Sol Ring, Mind Stone, Sky Diamond, Everflowing Chalice, Sapphire Medallion and Worn Powerstone ramp you, Azure Mage, Sea Gate Oracle and Compulsive Research draw cards, and Fog Bank holds the ground. Tormod's Crypt protects you from graveyard strategies.
The middle of the game is about control and card advantage. Teferi, Temporal Archmage digs and untaps, Mulldrifter, Concentrate and Sphinx of Uthuun draw piles of cards, Dismiss, Exclude and Turn to Frog answer threats, and Cyclonic Rift and Into the Roil bounce problems. Thran Dynamo and Ur-Golem's Eye add mana for big turns.
The late game is about huge monsters and resets. Sphinx of Magosi, Deep-Sea Kraken, Lorthos, the Tidemaker and Breaching Leviathan close games, Artisan of Kozilek reanimates a creature, Phyrexian Ingester exiles a creature, and Aether Gale, Distorting Wake and Nevinyrral's Disk reset the board.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths: The deck has a huge amount of card draw and a very consistent mana base, so it rarely stumbles. It also has plenty of interaction, including Cyclonic Rift, Pongify, Dismiss, Exclude, Domineering Will and Willbender.
Weaknesses: A mono-blue deck has few ways to remove problem permanents permanently, since most of its answers are temporary bounce, and it needs time to set up its large monsters. Several of its best cards cost seven or more, so a fast start can be hard to handle.
