Overview
Quandrix College is obsessed with growth and mathematical perfection, and Quandrix Unlimited translates that philosophy into a Commander deck that scales exponentially. It is a +1/+1 counters deck at its core, but with a hydra theme that gives those counters purpose: scaling creatures that become genuine threats as the counters accumulate.
Zimone, Infinite Analyst provides card selection tied to counter placement, ensuring the deck maintains gas while building its board. The counter doublers (Hardened Scales, Unbound Flourishing, Ozolith the Shattered Spire) compound every investment. By the mid game, a Primordial Hydra or Hydroid Krasis cast for X=10 becomes a 20/20 before the turn ends, and every subsequent proliferate trigger doubles it again.
Key Cards
Playing the Deck
The first two turns should establish your counter doublers. Hardened Scales on turn one and Arcane Signet on turn two set up a turn-three Zimone with a full counter multiplier already in play. The doubling effects compound each other, so getting them both early dramatically increases the power of every subsequent play.
The mid game is about deploying hydras with X in their cost and watching the doublers do their work. Kami of Whispered Hopes generates mana equal to its power, and with counters stacking quickly it becomes a substantial mana source. Tanazir Quandrix distributes counters from the largest creature to all others on attack, turning even modest creatures into threats.
The late game is about closing with overwhelming board presence. Biomass Mutation sets all creatures' base power and toughness to X, then the counters stack on top, enabling an unexpected lethal attack. Stroke of Genius can draw enormous quantities of cards when the mana engine is running. Hydroid Krasis combines life gain, card draw, and a flying trampler in one card.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths: Excellent mana scaling. The combination of green ramp and mana-generating creatures means the deck consistently hits large X values earlier than expected. Counter doublers compound quickly, turning modest investments into disproportionately large threats. The Ozolith provides counter recovery that makes removal less punishing than in most creature decks.
Weaknesses: Enchantment removal targeting the counter doublers can set the deck back significantly. Wraths are effective against the hydra-heavy board. The strategy is also telegraphed: once opponents see the counter package, they know to prioritise removal on Hardened Scales, Unbound Flourishing, and Zimone before the board gets out of hand.
