Overview

Quandrix College is obsessed with growth and mathematical perfection, and Quandrix Unlimited translates that philosophy into a Commander deck that scales exponentially. It is a +1/+1 counters deck at its core, but with a hydra theme that gives those counters purpose: scaling creatures that become genuine threats as the counters accumulate.

Zimone, Infinite Analyst provides card selection tied to counter placement, ensuring the deck maintains gas while building its board. The counter doublers (Hardened Scales, Unbound Flourishing, Ozolith the Shattered Spire) compound every investment. By the mid game, a Primordial Hydra or Hydroid Krasis cast for X=10 becomes a 20/20 before the turn ends, and every subsequent proliferate trigger doubles it again.

Key Cards

Unbound Flourishing
Counter Doubler · X-Spell Copier
Doubles the value of X whenever you cast a spell with X in its mana cost, and copies permanent spells with X. For every hydra you cast, Unbound Flourishing effectively doubles its entry size. A Primordial Hydra cast with X=5 enters as a 10/10 with this in play, or creates a 5/5 copy as well.
Hardened Scales
Counter Amplifier · One-Mana Powerhouse
Adds one counter whenever one or more counters are placed on a creature you control. A one-mana enchantment that compounds every counter effect in the deck. Combined with Unbound Flourishing and Ozolith the Shattered Spire, Hardened Scales creates a counter multiplier that quickly generates enormous creatures from modest mana investment.
Primordial Hydra
Scaling Threat · Finisher
Doubles its own counters each upkeep and gains trample when it has ten or more. With Hardened Scales and Unbound Flourishing in play, it enters far larger than its mana cost suggests, and the doubling triggers compound the multipliers further. A Primordial Hydra that survives two upkeeps with doublers in play frequently becomes a lethal trampler.
Ozolith, the Shattered Spire
Counter Storage · Recursion Safety Net
Stores counters when creatures leave and distributes them to new creatures. Adds an extra counter on top when counters are placed if you pay one mana. It is both a multiplier and insurance: when your hydra is killed, its counters don't disappear, they wait on the Ozolith for the next creature to receive them.

Playing the Deck

The first two turns should establish your counter doublers. Hardened Scales on turn one and Arcane Signet on turn two set up a turn-three Zimone with a full counter multiplier already in play. The doubling effects compound each other, so getting them both early dramatically increases the power of every subsequent play.

The mid game is about deploying hydras with X in their cost and watching the doublers do their work. Kami of Whispered Hopes generates mana equal to its power, and with counters stacking quickly it becomes a substantial mana source. Tanazir Quandrix distributes counters from the largest creature to all others on attack, turning even modest creatures into threats.

The late game is about closing with overwhelming board presence. Biomass Mutation sets all creatures' base power and toughness to X, then the counters stack on top, enabling an unexpected lethal attack. Stroke of Genius can draw enormous quantities of cards when the mana engine is running. Hydroid Krasis combines life gain, card draw, and a flying trampler in one card.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths: Excellent mana scaling. The combination of green ramp and mana-generating creatures means the deck consistently hits large X values earlier than expected. Counter doublers compound quickly, turning modest investments into disproportionately large threats. The Ozolith provides counter recovery that makes removal less punishing than in most creature decks.

Weaknesses: Enchantment removal targeting the counter doublers can set the deck back significantly. Wraths are effective against the hydra-heavy board. The strategy is also telegraphed: once opponents see the counter package, they know to prioritise removal on Hardened Scales, Unbound Flourishing, and Zimone before the board gets out of hand.

Verdict
Quandrix Unlimited is a satisfying Simic precon that delivers on the promise of its theme: counters that grow without limit. The hydra package is genuinely powerful, the doubler synergies are immediately apparent, and the deck creates memorable moments when Primordial Hydra's doubling triggers start cascading. It is more focused than many Simic precons and plays cleanly in a casual pod. The Oracle can help optimise the counter package and identify the most efficient hydras to add for a sharper, faster version of the strategy.
