Overview
Tramplesaurus Rex is the most straightforward of the five Foundations Commander decks: play large creatures, give them trample, attack. Ghalta is the star — a 12/12 Trample that costs two generic mana less for each point of power your creatures already represent. With six power on the board by turn five, Ghalta costs GG, arriving for two mana as one of the most efficient creatures in the format. The cost reduction is not incidental: the deck is deliberately built around maximising board power before Ghalta becomes affordable.
The trample subtheme runs deep. Rhonas the Indomitable gives any creature +2/+0 and trample as an activated ability. Garruk's Uprising grants all your creatures trample automatically once you have a creature with four or more power. Overwhelming Stampede gives everything +X/+X and trample where X equals your highest power creature — with Ghalta in play, this is effectively +12/+12 trample on every attacker, ending games immediately. The deck is not trying to be clever: it is trying to be bigger than anyone else at the table and crash through defenders.
Key Cards
Playing the Deck
Open with mana accelerators. Elvish Mystic, Fyndhorn Elves, Llanowar Elves, and Llanowar Tribe provide turn-two ramp that makes a turn-three five-drop possible. The goal is reaching seven total mana (or six with some power already on board) by turn four or five to deploy Ghalta for her reduced cost. Birds of Paradise and Ilysian Caryatid provide additional colour fixing alongside ramp. Resist the urge to overload the board before protection is available — a sweeper before Ghalta lands is the deck's worst scenario.
The mid game revolves around maintaining power density. Beast Whisperer ensures you draw into more threats as you deploy them. Garruk's Uprising provides free trample grants the moment you have a four-power creature and draws a card when each subsequent creature enters. The Dinosaur package — Carnage Tyrant, Hulking Raptor, Ripjaw Raptor, Regal Imperiosaur, Pugnacious Hammerskull — provides resistant mid-game threats that force opponents to interact before Ghalta arrives. Surrak and Goreclaw give your team trample and reduce costs further.
In the late game, attack with the full team. Overwhelming Stampede ends games immediately when cast. Rhonas the Indomitable ensures key creatures punch through even a board of large blockers. Scavenging Ooze and Whiptongue Hydra handle graveyard strategies and flying blockers respectively, preventing the common anti-green counters from stalling the game. Ghalta herself demands immediate answers — an unanswered 12/12 Trample attacking for the first time is often lethal when combined with the rest of the board.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths: The deck deploys threats faster than most Commander decks through cheap mana acceleration, and Ghalta's cost reduction means the payoff creature can arrive before opponents have established their own game plans. The trample density makes combat damage difficult to prevent through token chump-blocking alone. Garruk's Uprising and Beast Whisperer provide card advantage that keeps the hand full.
Weaknesses: The deck has almost no interaction with opponents' strategies — Beast Within and Kenrith's Transformation are the only removal pieces, and Arachnogenesis handles combat. Opponents with removal-heavy packages can answer each large creature as it arrives, preventing Ghalta from ever becoming affordable. The deck also has no graveyard recursion, meaning card advantage after a wrath is limited.
